Renovation of old buildings into energy efficient way

A group of Boston architects received a rating at the LEEDуровня "gold" for the deep renovation of a building built in the 1960-ies in Andover, Massachusetts.

In an office building with an area of approximately 35 thousand square meters worked nearly 2000 Federal employees, and for half a century, after several reorganizations it became a confusion of numerous rooms and corridors. So the first thing the designers raked the mess, letting into more natural lighting via light shafts. The redevelopment included the creation of a sort of "boulevards" and multifunctional spaces. The building also received new high-performance insulation to external walls and Windows with energy efficient double-glazed Windows and automatic blinds. Sanitary fittings with low water consumption allowed to reduce its consumption by 32%. As a particular achievement, emphasizes the fact that 95% of construction waste generated during the renovation, managed in one way or another to use again.

Pride of designers was a geothermal system from 384 wells to a depth of 150 meters, largely thanks to which, as the developers say, the total power consumption of the building was able to reduce by half.
