Zuckerberg lifts veil of secrecy over Facebook's Oculus Rift integration
With Facebook’s acquisition of Oculus VR, many are scratching their heads: how exactly can virtual reality and social media be combined? Various versions were put forward, ranging from intrusive virtual advertising to virtual sex. It seems that Mark Zuckerberg decided to allay some of the fears of the masses and made a short presentation to the press about the future of Facebook.
As it turned out, the first step to introduce Oculus Rift into the Facebook ecosystem will be panoramic videos with a viewing angle of full 360 degrees. Mark showed a slide to journalists present at the press conference, which depicted a logical scheme for the evolution of the transmission of impressions to a person by a social network. First on the list are text impressions, then photos, videos and, finally, virtual and augmented reality. They, according to Mark, can fully convey the emotions of visiting different parts of the Earth, if you sit at home and for some reason can not go there in person.
The second important step of Zuckerberg believes the integration of virtual reality in the news column (News Feed), when some users can use the headset Oculus Rift to see what other users saw. People will be able to add panoramic videos directly to their Facebook wall, and anyone with a headset and appropriate software can be transferred to the place where the video was recorded.
However, no one can promise that concerns about intrusive 3D advertising in such videos will one day not become a harsh reality. But Zuckerberg has been cunningly silent about this. As they say, we'll live and see. After all, while even the headset Oculus Rift has not got an official release date, what here to talk about some social networks.
