Light communication LiFi — 100 times faster Wi-Fi
It is possible that in the near future we will be able to connect to the Internet using nothing but a simple lamp.
Li-Fi, or (light fidelity, in translation "faithful to the light), is a new wireless technology that was presented at the exhibition Mobile World Congress, the world's largest exhibition of mobile technology in Barcelona. French startup Oledcomm claims that the new technology is 100 times faster than conventional Wi-Fi.
So how does this system works on the basis of the world? Everything is based from the unique properties of led lamps. Most likely, we never notice light bulbs flicker with a frequency thousands of times per second, this frequency is invisible to human eyes, but can perceive the computers. This frequency is incredibly high, especially compared to radio waves used for conventional wireless access to the Internet.
Laboratory tests showed that Li-Fi can transmit information at almost unbelievable speeds, more than 200 gigabytes per second. It's fast enough to load about 23 DVDs of information, literally, in the blink of an eye.
Despite the frequency, there are some drawbacks of this new technology. On the one hand to work the light must be visible to the receiver, so it can not pass through walls, how can Wi-Fi. In addition, you need to place the device directly in the luminous flux, which limits the physical space where it can operate efficiently.
However, there are some advantages to the limited volume of the signal. In recent times it has become a very sensitive issue of information security and privacy of private information. Unlike Wi-Fi that has the potential to broadcast information far and wide, signals Li-Fi can be aimed at one user who will be able to keep their personal information. And because the signal is easy to limit, it can be used in places such as hospitals or schools.
When you can use Li-Fi to yourself? Right now this technology is used in French museums and shopping centers, and has already been tested in public places in Belgium, Estonia and India. Companies such as Philips and Apple have already expressed interest in the technology, and there are rumors that it can be included in the iPhone 7.
