How to water the plants in the home garden
Features watering plants in the home garden Restless gardeners have found a way to make the holiday season almost continuous: in the winter we're having "patches" on the window sills. Some even on the balconies or the loggia year-round vegetables. The case is fascinating, but requiring compliance with certain conditions. And do not know how anyone, but for me most trouble delivers watering, so about it and offer to talk tonight.
In a home garden, in addition to the requirements of each plant need to take into account peculiarities of the microclimate: temperature and humidity; the moisture content of the soil; intensity of illumination. Significantly and the time of year: in the summer watering should be more abundant than in winter when the excess water can ruin plants. Normally you need "water treatment", we define what is called the eye — in appearance to plants and soil. But it is necessary to remember some rules.
How to water the plants
Pots and containers must be deep enough pallets, which drains excessive moisture. Water from the trays to drain, and should not be allowed to remain in them for long. But be sure to take into account the characteristics of the soil in which you planted plant:
In any capacity there should be holes to drain excess water, and at the bottom of the required drainage. If the plant requires heavy watering, but does not respond well to stagnant water, the drainage layer is made high. To create it convenient to use the expanded clay, but you can take and the usual small stones.
Probably everyone knows that should not be used for irrigation of tap water straight from the tap. It must stand for at least a day in an open container to remove chlorine, which is bad for the development of plants. At the same time we achieve another useful result: while the water settles, its temperature will have time to catch up with the room. Never use cold water for watering.
I once met guidelines for using melt water for watering of indoor plants (including herbs and vegetables in the home garden). They say that it is healthier than usual. Do not dispute this statement, but in the course of their experiments, any noticeable impact on landing is not noticed.
A sense of proportion and a good eye
The most harmful plants and drought, and excess moisture — it is necessary to constantly maintain the soil in a moderately wet state. But in practice, this can be not so easy: loose soil in pots and boxes on the window sill dry out very quickly, so you have to constantly keep the situation under control, because the contrasts are sharp transitions from drought to high humidity — also favor the planting will not go.
If you still didn't know the plant with a barren lump of land we can try to revive by placing a pot for 5-6 hours in a large vessel with water (temperature from +25 to +30° C). Gradually the soil will become saturated with moisture; then, taking a container of water, allow to drain excess liquid and return the plant to its normal place.
Here are some crops (e.g., lettuce) from these tests the taste is hopelessly broken: the leaves stiffen, become bitter and tasteless. So the drought in the home garden — the problem is serious.
Excessive watering, in turn, often leads to rot of the roots (especially if the waterlogging is accompanied by supercooling of the root system in the winter on the windowsill is a real danger). From dampness can sour the soil, and because of the poor ventilation, the growth of our Pets is inhibited.
If it has happened, pour plants, proryhlit the surface layer of soil that the roots have received an additional inflow of air, or even remove this layer and replace it.
If the soil is beginning to turn sour, to urgently re-pot your pet. When transplanting the roots must be freed from soil soured and washed, damaged and decayed parts to remove.
And the intensity of irrigation depends on the age of the plant. In young seedlings, the root system absorbs less water than Mature plants, the roots of which penetrate the entire earth com. So polerowanie transplanted and young plants need to be watered carefully, a little better.
That the requirements for soil moisture each culture has its own, probably not worth to say is know all who though time something grew. But when it comes to watering the "garden beds" on the windowsill, we reason about it sometimes forget and watered all the plants equally. And you can't do it...
To simplify the task, you can group landing — place the containers on the window sills so that there was a culture with similar needs. It would seem that the obvious solution? But to me it somehow is not the first time came to mind, so I wanted to share it — suddenly somebody else is such a simple tip useful.
Devices and accessories for irrigation
In the home vegetable crops are watered, generally of small watering cans with long spouts. The strainer they use only when watering seedlings; watering grown plants the watering can without the strainer.
And personally, more to my liking came here this piece of plate (a hybrid of a jug and a watering can)). It is good because it is convenient to pour water, and feeding if necessary, easily add.
Additional treatment – spraying. For it will need a spray bottle, fine spray water. Spraying the plants need, which for the normal development requires high humidity. However, in the winter in our homes the air is so dry that a small soul and the other will not refuse.
And the spray is indispensable when you need to water the tiny seedlings, for which even a weak trickle of water from the fine meshes of a small watering can be excessive. In short, useful device.
If your home garden is large enough, you can use automatic or drip irrigation – purchased or made yourself. The use of such devices saves time, and most importantly — allows you to maintain the optimum moisture level of the soil in the planting containers.
What is hydrogel and what can it be useful to us
As I have confessed in the beginning of the article, to me, watering the home garden is the most difficult task. In the eternal hassle, I often miss the point, when it would take a watering can to hand. Automatic system — not my option (for multiple pots for 3-4 months a year I'm not ready to buy expensive devices). So was looking for a simple but effective solution. Found!
Care of plants in the home garden much easier hydrogel. It is a neutral polymeric substance that can easily hold a large amount of water and give it to the plant roots as needed. The introduction of hydrogel into the soil really allows you to water the plants less frequently, while they develop better because they get moisture in needed amounts.
The hydrogel is produced in the form of colourless granules, often irregular in shape (not to be confused with akvagrunt, geometrically – spherical, cuboid, or other form and often painted in different colors: it is used mainly for decorative purposes). There is a powdery substance — it is designed to prepare the "mash" into which dip the roots of plants when transplanting or before transport.
To make a hydrogel in the soil can be both dry and after soaking (the latter is preferable: absorbing moisture, a hydrogel is greatly increased in size, and to calculate the amount of required hard substrate). Akvagrunt, in turn, is used only after soaking with the soil is not mixed — it is beautiful in itself.
It should be borne in mind that the immediate effect of making the hydrogel should not wait. It moisturizes the soil, he delivers moisture directly to the roots of plants that need time to grow through the swollen granules. So the first time will have to pour normally. But then you can almost not worry — even if you had a few days to get away from home, Pets will not suffer from thirst.
You can soak the hydrogel in the water, and the solution of the appropriate complex fertilizer then the plants can draw water from this source not only moisture, but also the necessary additional power. In General, I am happy with this decision.published
