Urine can be a source of renewable energy

A group of scientists and researchers British Heriot-Watt University is currently studying the question: is it possible to use urine to produce energy using new, low-cost fuel cells. They have developed a prototype fuel cell system called Power Carbamide, and now received a grant in the amount of 130 000 pounds sterling for its development.

The developers believe that Carbamide Power System will be widely used in submarines, to generate electricity in isolated or remote areas such as deserts or islands. Since the process splits urea to water, nitrogen and carbon dioxide, it can also be used for recycling waste water and generate electricity as the output product.
