Unexpected side effects after last year's floods may be observed in Pakistan. Millions of spiders climbed trees to escape the rising waters.
Because of the huge scale of the flood and too long time retreat of water level, many of the trees turned into a cocoon of fabric spiders. People in this part of Sindh have never seen this before, but they also report that the observed positive changes: there are fewer mosquitoes, despite the fact that around standing water.
It is believed that mosquitoes caught by spiders, thereby reducing the risk of malaria.
