On Earth, the sand ends ...
Everyone knows that the planet's resources are finite, that the forests that give us oxygen, are cut down, that fresh water is less and so on.. But thought anyone that we could end up all the sand?
Sand is very much, it covers a huge area, such as beaches and deserts. However, "many" does not mean "infinite" and environmentalists in some parts of the world are very concerned about the fact that in their territories it is mineral raw materials may soon disappear completely. Thus, in France, for example, for each inhabitant annually produces about 7 tons of sand. Sandpit France practically devastated, and dig new impossible, since to do so would have been in the areas of nature reserves. In Scotland, the reduced area of beaches of white sand, beaches in Morocco, and quickly built up. The most telling example - Indonesia, where due to sand mining have virtually disappeared as much as 24 islands.
Sand is necessary for us to produce basic building materials: bricks, concrete and asphalt. While the world already has a great variety of materials produced by artificial means, a massive shift to them yet, unfortunately, in the remote prospect.
