Mississippi (USA), slavery was legal until 1995
In 1995, Mississippi was ratified by the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution, abolishing slavery.
The US Congress passed the amendment back in 1864, and the following year it was ratified and entered into force in most states. The text of the amendment reads as follows: "Neither the United States nor in any other place to which they have jurisdiction, there should be no slavery or servitude, except as punishment for the offenses for which the offender has been duly convicted."
It was later adopted by a number of decrees and amendments to equalize the rights of black people and white people in the country. In Mississippi, the 13th amendment for some reason, "forgot" to take, so that the official powers she did not have and, therefore, slavery continued to exist formally.
