John Paul Stapp - "the fastest man in the world"

June 1, 1951 "Rocket man" John Paul Stapp - US Air Force Colonel - experienced the force of the acceleration of a rocket engine, participating in an experiment on the effect of congestion on the human body. John Stepp was the organizer of these experiments and at the same time as a volunteer. It was his first acceleration along the track in the 610 meters with an overload of 48 g.

It took 3 years, and in December 1954, the colonel had the courage to even more harsh crackdown on the track at 839 m. The way a man fastened to the platform with the rocket boosters from the start to the braking point was less than 0, 1 sec., And stopped Platform More 1, 4 seconds. But John Stepp these moments were given hard: 8 more minutes after the stop, he saw a red haze before his eyes - they literally bulged; eyesight was completely restored only after half an hour.

After these tests, Colonel often received other injuries, from bruises to broken ribs. Eyes are also not seen worse, but damn sick as when you remove the tooth. What gave these studies, and why John Stepp voluntarily sat down in the chair test over and over again?

Each launch of a human rocket scientists brought closer to providing better security not only to military pilots, and drivers and passengers of various civilian traffic from cars to airplanes. Every broken bone gave new information to improve the design of seats and seat belts. According to the research Road Safety Commission US adopted the mandatory use of seat belts and airbags.

John Paul STEP, man-rocket, went down in history as a hero and the fastest man in the world. He was a pioneer in the study of high speeds and large accelerations, work for the benefit of all people.

Colonel lived to be 89 years old in 1999, died at his home in Alamogordo, New Mexico.
