Why you can not exactly draw the object from memory, but you know what it looks like

Have you ever looked at the subject pravilno

Most people in my life read at least a few comics or seen a few cartoons. Now think about some simple characters who have seen quite often - for example, Mickey Mouse or Homer Simpson. Now, grab a pencil and paper and try to draw it. Only good try, not haphazardly, spend at least two minutes. And be sure to draw from memory.

If you are not an artist, what happened, most likely, not very good. Perhaps the head of Mickey Mouse turned out okay, but you have not been able to remember how to draw a nose. In the case of Homer Simpson you could turn the head and eyes, but that's how the mouth moves in the neck, the right to draw failed.

The problem is not in our inability to draw: click the picture with Mickey Mouse on the Internet and try srisovat it from there. The difference though is noticeable, but will still be drawing at least tolerable. But when we draw from memory, it brings us: we can not think about how the lines are combined with each other.

Remember the words of Sherlock Holmes, "you see, but do not see." And that, that's right: most of us have never counted the steps on the stairs and did not notice if their number suddenly changes. On the drawing the same thing - when we look at a certain character, we simply perceive what he looks like, nothing more.

When we rely on memory to complete the task we need the memories that fall into this particular task. Passively remember how something looks, and actively remembering to draw the object - these are two different processes.

The most interesting thing is that we do not need to learn to paint, to make a more or less similar to the original drawing - all that is needed is to see how we draw the object, when we look at it. Of course, to become an artist, a virtuoso, takes practice, but at least it is acceptable to draw you out - if you observe, not just watch.
