Garden of monsters in Italy

Italian commune Bomarzo known for its sacred forest, which is also called the Garden of monsters. The project is considered one of the most striking examples of the great monuments of the Renaissance, the authorship of the architect Pirro Ligorio.

Construction of the park began in the first half of the XVI-th century, and was completed only by the end of the century. Researchers estimate that the construction of the Sacred Forest took about thirty years. The total ensemble includes three dozen sculptures of mythological creatures and simply invented animals.
