Rally-marathon "Dakar 2009" was launched January 3 in the Argentine capital, for seven days, the participants overcame 4956 kilometers, of which 2,610 kilometers of special stages transcripts made (with the reduction tracks 6 and 7 CS). January 9 caravan participants crossed the border Argentina-Chile and stopped on the Pacific coast in the Chilean port of Valparaiso.

January 10 is the only day of rest, after which participants will go north to the Atacama Desert and Catamarca, where the caravan will turn east again to cross the Andes and 17 January will finish in Buenos Aires.

Recall route rally-marathon "Dakar 2009" is divided into 14 stages: nine of them pass through the territory of Argentina, two - in the border areas between the two countries, three - in Chile. The total route of 9574 km length of the special stages - 5652 km. At the start of the race came 500 teams: 217 motorbikes, 25 quads, 177 cars and 81 trucks. The first seven days of the race overall there were only 264 teams: 137 motorbikes, 15 quads, 93 cars and 19 trucks.
