Hearing ears England

Famous acoustic mirrors «Listening Ears» at the former military air base RAF in Dengue (Kent) granted the status of a national monument, writes VG.

In the twenties of the last century in this place, British military experts and physics experiments were performed for the early detection of enemy aircraft with the help of concrete structures, called "listening ears". It has survived three such mirrors - with a diameter of six meters, nine meters long, shestidesyatimetrovoy mirror in the form of a curved wall. Mirrors collected sound waves emanating from flying over the sea plane and passed them on to the microphone mounted at the focus of the acoustic device.





The experiments were terminated with the first radar in the early thirties.

Dr. Richard Scarth, an expert on such structures, are now conducting guided tours in the area, where the «Listening Ears».
