The Republic of Uzupis
In the heart of Vilnius, a small river flowing Vilnelė forming a loop. This loop is the area Uzupis (Užupis), which houses the self-proclaimed republic of artists, poets and other creative people - Republic of Uzupis (aka Oh republic or the republic of Užupis). Dissonant to the Russian ear name means very simple: už - «for», upė - «river». So it turns out - the Republic of Užupis.

Before Lithuania became independent in 1990, the quarter was one of the most abandoned places in the city. Later quarter was the home of many artists and people in the arts. Residents proclaimed Republic of Uzupis quarter with its own flag, president, constitution and even the army of 12 people. They celebrate Independence Day polushutochny April 1, which they called the Day of Užupis.
