27 January 1945 Auschwitz was liberated by the Red Army. By this date, timed annually celebrated worldwide Holocaust Remembrance Day. The ceremony was attended surviving prisoners of concentration camps Auschwitz and Birkenau, many of them came with their families, as well as officials. On this death factory from June 1940 to January 45th have been destroyed over a million people. The exact number of victims is not known until now.
January 27, 1944 - The final release of Leningrad from the enemy blockade. In Leningrad was made fireworks to celebrate the lifting of the blockade. Older women each year come to a simple plate on the walls of the 14th house on Nevsky Prospect, warns on which side is safe to walk during the shelling and became a symbol of resistance of Leningrad survivors of the 900-day siege.
