Tomb, the mausoleum of the German Duke of Brunswick, driven from their possessions, and died in Geneva in 1883. He bequeathed the city a huge sum in those days of 22 million gold francs, but on condition that his memory was erected a mausoleum and will look after him. Duke was a notorious libertine and dishonorable man. The condition was out of the ordinary. But millions ... and the municipality could not resist the power of money. For monument they tended to this day.
Reluctance to be buried in the ground is explained simply - it was claustrophobic.
