GMO - fish
Genetically modified fluorescent fish - a new hit among wealthy hobbyists. Until recently, scientists have been able to display red, green, orange, yellow, blue and purple fish. Through the efforts of Academia Sinica, National Taiwan Ocean University and private Taiwanese company Jy Lin has another kind - pink. Her first copies were shown at a press preview of the 2012 Taiwan International Aquarium Expo. The exhibition itself will be held from 9 to 12 November in Taipei, Taiwan.
Such fluorescent fish are clearly visible in the dark and can produce offspring, but their sale, possession and breeding are still banned in most countries because of lack of understanding of the impact of genetic modification on living organisms. That, however, does not prevent individuals buying these fish a lot of money.
