Company Tesla and race electric car Electric GT officially unveiled the racing version of the Model S at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham. This version will participate in the forthcoming championship of electric cars, which will be permitted exclusively to vehicles of class GT.
Originally the competition was supposed to participate in a specially prepared electric vehicles on the basis of the RWD Model S P85+, but instead, the race decided to allow more powerful models with all-wheel drive.

The racing version built on the top-end Tesla — series sedan Model S P100D. Due to the fact that the back of the car was "thrown out" all unnecessary, its weight has been reduced by 500 pounds. In the end, up to 100 km/h sports version accelerates in 2.1 seconds and a top speed limited at around 250 km/h.

At the competition all the "Tesla" will be equipped with Pirelli tyres for dry or rainy weather. It is assumed that the standard battery capacity of 100 kWh will allow to drive in race mode up to 60 km.

The first season of the Electric GT championship will include seven stages, which will be held on the European route, including at the Nurburgring, circuit Paul Ricard in France, in Barcelona, as well as on the racetrack in the United States Each of the stages will include a 20 minute practice hour qualification and two runs for 60 kilometers. At the same time, the second will be held at dusk. The championship will bring together 10 teams in the Tesla Model S, and in the future the organizers do not exclude that it will be possible to use the electric vehicles of other brands. published
