On the grave of the lookouts of the Titanic brought the binoculars
On the grave of Frederick fleet, the lookout on "Taanit" was discovered binoculars. A mysterious stranger left it near the headstone of a British sailor. Together with the glasses was a note from a certain Francis. Who was the author of the message is still unknown.
The note contained the following lines: "Dear Fred! I'm sorry I bought you the binoculars for a hundred years too late, but better late than never! You said if you had binoculars, you'd have more time to save 'Titanic' from the iceberg. Here you go. With love, Francis".
This situation was commented by the representative of the society for the history of the "Titanic" Nigel Wright, who said he believes the trick with the binoculars offensive. He called the act of Francis as a desecration of the memory of the lookouts.
The duty of the lookouts on the "Titanic" had day and night shifts. Night shift from 14 to 15 April 1912 had Frederick Fleet. When the lookouts saw the block of ice, he told sixth officer James Moody to the Floor, shouting: "iceberg right ahead!". But disaster was already inevitable, time to change course was not enough and the largest passenger liner of its time went down. More than half of people were on the boat died. Frederick fleet survived, and later said that if he had binoculars, he would have noticed the iceberg a lot sooner.
The fleet was in the Navy until 1936. In 1965, he committed suicide by hanging. It is believed that the reason for this was severe depression of a sailor associated with the guilt for the death of passengers of "Titanic." Fleet was buried at Southampton. In 1993, on his grave set a tombstone with a picture of the Titanic.
