Live plants is converted into electricity source

Dutch researchers have discovered a method of generating electricity from living plants. The new technology will bring a revolution in green energy — the whole house can supply electricity simply by installing a rooftop lawn.
According to experts, bog and wet meadows occupy about 6% of the earth's surface. Thanks to new technology, which has developed Marjolein Helder at the University of Wageningen in the Netherlands, these areas can be the most important source of energy.

Unlike biogas, which is produced by anaerobic digestion or fermentation of biomass, the new technology, which is called "Plant-microbial fuel cell", can produce electricity from living plants. Scientists say their technology will not damage the greens and generally does not affect the state of the environment.
The technology uses the energy of photosynthesis, which is contained in the biological material. Plants remove excess energy through the roots in the form of juice. Bacteria in the soil decompose it, thus release electrons which can be collected by placing the electrodes in a special place.

Power plant energy is small. With a square meter of land that is planted with plants, you can collect only 0.4 watt. The developers claim that in the near future this figure will fall to 3.2 watts.
