In Israel discovered the frog, considered extinct

In Israel, the frog that was considered extinct, has announced a live relic.
Black-bellied Discoteca frog (Discoglossus nigriventer) was declared extinct in 1943, but in 2011 one individual was found by inspector a National Park in Houla, in the Galilee.
Since it was found 13 more individuals that gave the opportunity for scientists to study this animal.
According to the research, this frog belongs to a group of amphibians that died out 15 thousand years ago.





American scientists confirmed that the Israeli decorated with frogs extinct around mid-20th century, continue to exist on the shores of lake Hula in the Northern part of the country and are indeed "living fossils", according to the article, which was published in the journal Nature Communications.





Frog species Discoglossus nigriventer was discovered in 1940, naturalists who studied the flora and fauna of the Israeli lake Hula. These amphibians are believed to be relatives of the long extinct European frogs of this genus, they disappeared in about 3,5-3 million years ago. Until 2011, believed that these amphibians became extinct around mid-20th century, when Israeli authorities began the draining of the marshes near the lake. Three years ago, animal rights groups found one live specimen at the shore of the lake, after which interest with frogs again revived.
