Plastic windows, metal door, intercom and laminate on the floor are standard signs of a familiar apartment in a typical Russian high-rise building.
But because of the many differences, ranging from climatic to cultural and religious, the concepts of home comfort in different countries differ significantly.
It is easy to notice, just crossing the threshold of an ordinary Israeli apartment.

- Due to the hot and humid climate in Israel, it is not customary to glue wallpaper. They quickly burn out or swell.
And the most popular wall decoration is whitewashing or painting with light paint.
- There is no central heating anywhere in Israel. They are usually warmed in winter by either heaters or air conditioners.
The water is heated by solar, electric or gas boilers.
- The layout of Israeli apartments is different from the Russian one. Usually it is a very large hall, combined with a kitchen, and small bedrooms. Also in Israel there is a clear separation of hall functions and bedroom functions.
They almost never sleep in the room. This room is designed to spend time with the family.
- In many Israeli homes there are no baths, only showers. It has to do with savings. Israel does not have its own sources of fresh water, its reserves are replenished during the rainy season, and therefore water tariffs here are very high!
In Israeli apartments from 3 rooms often 2 toilets. Usually one toilet is placed separately, and the second is combined with a bathroom.
- A distinctive feature of Israeli apartments is a special room-bomb shelter, or security room.
Most often, it is slightly smaller than other rooms in the apartment, and is distinguished by very thick walls, an iron door and a window with iron shutters.
- In Israel, there are 2 types of balconies: a sunny balcony and a technical balcony. Technical balconies are quite small and are located in the bathroom or kitchen.
Usually on such balconies there is a washing machine, some technical cabinets, you can hang clothes for drying.
- In Israeli apartments you will not find carpets, as well as linoleum, laminate, parquet and other familiar flooring.
In almost all rooms the floor is lined with ceramic tiles. In hot and dusty climates it is very convenient. The tile makes the floor cool and can be washed easily and quickly.
- Windows in Israeli apartments are a mesh from insects, trisses (dense blinds) from the sun and, in fact, glass. Curtains and curtains are not common.
- One ordinary family in Israel usually has 3 children. Therefore, small apartments are quite small.
New buildings are practically not built with apartments less than 3 rooms and an area of less than 100 square meters.
- At the entrance to any Jewish house on the outer jambs of the door, you can see a mezuza - a scroll of parchment with words from the Torah.
Before leaving or entering the house, the fingers of the right hand are put to the mezuzah and then kiss them.
As you can see, the average apartments and houses in Israel differ from similar in Russia layout, the presence of special rooms-bomb shelters, interior decoration and heating system.
