The Koreans have created a car that runs on ammonia

The idea is to use a mixture of gasoline and ammonia as fuel for the car lingers for quite some time. And actually, the combustion of ammonia is obtained only nitrogen and water vapor, besides, it is much easier to store than hydrogen. Another advantage of using ammonia — the relative ease of conversion of an ordinary internal combustion engine. Developments in this direction lead scientists from different countries. But the real car that runs on a mixture of ammonia and gasoline was first presented to scientists of the Korean Institute of energy research (KIER) in may this year.

As reported by the developers of fuel on the basis of ammonia suitable for any petrol engine — it requires only slightly upgrade the fuel system. At the moment, the blend includes 70% ammonia and 30% gasoline, but even this proportion in the translation at least 20 percent of all vehicles in South Korea for this type of fuel, emissions of harmful substances into the country will drop by about 15 percent, or 10 million tons per year.

The search for alternative energy sources for vehicles is a challenging problem, as the oil reserves are not infinite and simple method of transfer of industry to the available fuels can play a crucial role in the future competitive market of "green" cars.
