China's Trina Solar signs contract to build largest solar project in Jordan
Chinese company Trina Solar announced late last month that it had secured a guaranteed contract to design, supply and build (EPC) a 2 MW roofing solar installation in Jordan.
On February 27, 2014, Fresh Fruits Company, a food storage and transportation company, signed a contract with Trina Solar that will allow the solar giant to install their high-efficiency TSM-PC05A Honey 260 Wp modules on the rooftops of the company’s stores and warehouses in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
These modules were chosen because of their reliability and performance in dry and almost desert environments, such as those seen in Amman. The project is the first large-scale roofing solar installation in Jordan. Work is expected to begin this month, with a preliminary commissioning date set for the third quarter of 2014.
Once completed, the plant will produce 3,200 MW of solar energy per year, replacing the effects of 38,400 tons of C02.
The 2 MW solar installations will be installed on the roofs of various stores and warehouses in Amman, Jordan.
“We are delighted to have been fortunate enough to carry out this large-scale project in Jordan,” said Trina Solar CEO and Chairman Jifan Gao. “The fact that we have been selected to design, supply and build this project demonstrates our ability to develop large-scale projects in the Middle East.”
“Oil and natural gas-importing countries such as Jordan are particularly vulnerable to fluctuations in world prices for such energy. Solar power can provide Jordan with a viable alternative and we see huge potential for growth in this market. Following this transaction and the previous contract to supply 1 MW of Trina Honey photovoltaic modules to Jordan, we will continue to actively pursue new opportunities in this emerging market.
Omar Hashlemon, general manager of Fresh Fruits Company, added that the company received more than 20 offers from local and international companies as part of the project, but they chose Trina Solar because of its “experienced team, technicians in the Middle East and its commitment to successfully develop similar projects in our region.”
