Buddhist book in the temples of Mandalay

Barminski king Mindon wanted to leave something to posterity. He, as a true lover of books, believed that literature is the most valuable component of an enlightened society. So he decided to leave the book. And not just any old book, and the largest in the history of mankind!

The king wanted the book not disappeared even after 500 years. (Paper of course was not suitable material). He began construction in 1860 in Mandalay (the Then capital of Burma). So with the Burmese monarch, we can contemplate a work of architectural art is the biggest book in the world, which is still at the foot of Mandalay. Her dimensions are amazing — 730 sheets and 1640 pages. Despite the fact that each of the pages are made of marble, and the words of the Tripitaka inscribed in gold nakama.

But that's not all. Ready? Each page is 1 m wide, 1.5 m tall and 2.5 cm thick. The total weight of the book is more than 1200 tons. Each stone tablet is in a separate pavilion and are all collected around the middle, the Golden pagoda, is called Pioduced.

The rows of pagodas form the biggest book, which contains advice to the king.

In this photo we see the layout of the Museum. In the middle is clearly visible the Central Golden pagoda.
Marble is mined 30 miles from the site and shipped by river to Mandalay. When, in 1860, work began on the stones was already built into the ground, and hundreds of senior monks edited the Scriptures. On each stone up to 100 lines and all of real gold. The construction went 8 years and it was opened to public view in 1868. Initially, over every arch in the box was a jewel, but after the invasion of the British in Northern Burma jewels ukali. In the 1890s began the restoration, but the book has returned to its former glory only in the late 20th century
