Space technology will help the Moroccans to purify water from nitrates

Scientists from the University of Kenitra intend to implement technologies traditionally used in space industry, the school of Sidi-Taibi.

This technology is used on the International space station for the life support of astronauts. It will sell French and German companies.

It is a method of filtering contaminated water using tiny ceramic and organic membranes, which are able to purify water from nitrates.

Holes in these membranes hundreds of times thinner than a human hair — the diameter is just a thousandth of a millimeter. The development of these membranes in the past two decades, the experts of the European space Agency (ESA).

Contractors used a similar membrane on a stand of station of water purification. The advantage of this setup is that it works on the energy of the sun and wind.

Station in Sidi Taibi to meet the needs in drinking water to 1200 students. At weekends and during school holidays the surplus generated by the station water and electricity will be consumed by the rest of the locals.

Moroccan authorities expect that in the case of the effectiveness of this experiment, a similar station will shortly be introduced in ten other regions, most suffering from lack of drinking water.
