Siberian chemists developed animal antibiotic of new generation

The scientific staff of the Novosibirsk Institute of Mechanochemistry and solid state chemistry of the Siberian branch of RAS developed a new generation of antibiotics from plant material.

This technology can be used successfully in the fight against various infectious diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. The use of drugs reduces the incidence by half, and the duration of the disease is reduced by 40%.

In comparison with the usual antibiotics, a new drug has no toxicity, they act upon the pathogen, in addition to beneficial microflora. Part of the yeast cell wall by chemical composition such as the inner side of the stomach, where in a familiar environment stick bacteria.

New technology can find the main application directly in the agricultural sector, in which infectious diseases of animals are accompanied by a decrease in weight, resulting in turns to host a significant loss. Soon, the Institute will launch in Berdsk the preparation of drugs for livestock.

Capacity of manufacture will make in a month about three thousand tons.

Research staff noted that in Russia immediately after joining the WTO, prohibited the use in livestock farming of traditional antibiotics. In addition, their use leads to the emergence of bacteria that are becoming resistant to the drugs.

Apart from that scientists have developed for the poultry industry and special medicines that strengthen bone. It is explained that birds have a bone growth often simply not kept pace with the increase in muscle mass. In order to maintain the balance, the poultry farmers use products with calcium, but calcium absorption by the body is extremely limited.
