Don't like your neighbour's house? Plead with them

A few years ago a blog called "BUILDLLC" published a post entitled "You'll never get sued for ugly."

"This phrase is often repeated to one of our teachers at school. What he meant by that, he meant literally something that as architects and designers we will always be responsible for everything except the aesthetics."

Then they list a few examples of aesthetic negligence that should be punished with a lawsuit in an ideal world:

"The head of this list is the complete absence of any driving idea or concept. The second place idea has no relation to time or region. Following is the architectural movement known as 'mixture of various 'things' in styles of bygone eras and faraway places'".

In Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, in respect of architect Louis cherry (Cherry Louis) is currently the subject of litigation. Was halted construction of his own house, which was completed by 85%, because his neighbor's house did not like. She considers it ugly. Allison Arieff ( Allison Arieff ) writes "the new York times":

"Gail Wiesner, who lives across the street from Louis cherry not by chance, in a house built in 2008 — do not like it in its environment. In her address, she complained that the house was not only too modern for the historic character of the district, but that the impact after its final construction would pose a threat to society."

There are many problems with this. The house is actually quite attractive, but the neighbors, apparently, prefer to "blend the various elements associated with the styles of bygone eras". In fact, the local conservation society loves the home; it wrote a letter of support, where is it written that the house is built "in accordance with a half century of philosophy and practice, contrary to the claim of his opponents".

Mirk Howard, head of the Security companies of North Carolina (Preservation North Carolina), says Ellison, that "the case of the house is not clear. Since it seems that the defenders against the house. But the true defenders are not against development“.

On its web site Louis cherry writes:

"Development of buildings entails responsibility for the environment. Buildings should be designed to use a minimum of energy and material resources. Each building should minimize its impact on the environment."

"The design of the house is not fixed, "ossified" over time; it evolves as conditions change. Materials and methods used a hundred years ago are not necessarily appropriate today; judging from google street view, most of these homes in this historic district have vinyl siding. Ask any real historical marker and it will tell you the same thing: modern is also a legacy."
