Archaeological discovery in Lipoven

Knives, bronze rings, amphorae and treated bones. These are just some of the objects found by archaeologists in the village of Lipoven, Chimishli district. They belong to ancient civilizations, which are about 2-3 thousand years old. And even though it is a unique historical monument for our country, most of it was destroyed as a result of illegal mining of sand and clay by residents of Lipoven and neighboring villages.

For the second year in a row, specialists are carrying out rescue work in archaeological excavations in Lipoven.

Unfortunately, as archaeologists note, the historical monument in Lipoven, so rich in historical artifacts, was seriously damaged as a result of sand and clay mining, which was produced here for several decades.

Some objects came to the surface by accident. They were collected by a local biology teacher who set up a makeshift museum at the school.

Archaeologists say they have asked local authorities to stop work on the quarry.
