Poor but happy Cubans
Two years American from new York walked the neighborhoods of Liberty island, knocking on doors and taking pictures of food.
Cuba than a good crime there. Unlike other Latin American countries, there are even white-skinned American woman safe to walk outside the tourist districts. Cubans for the most part — friendly people, but their homes ashamed. Many kitchens in addition to cutting boards and tiles, there is nothing. To be a photographer, you also need to know the basics of psychology. Ellen Silverman, the so-called American, is able to find the words to convince.
One morning she stopped next to the woman, she initially unlocked, but in the end let her into the house. It turned out that the woman and her husband are artists. All the space was full of life, color. Welcoming the Cubans uncorking a bottle of wine, did not notice that conversations took away a couple of hours.
Another time, walking along the Harbor, she entered the five-storey building. Knocked at the door, but nobody opened. Finally on the top floor she opened the two sisters, Getrudis and Elena, who lived here for over 50 years. They were excited when they learned about the mission of the photographer allowed to shoot your tiny area, where side by side cook for many years.
First, Ellen Silverman pleasing graphic simplicity Havana cuisine and bold colors. And only then she noticed that the kitchen these live a special life. Each of them tells his story about the tenants. In every photo where there are no people, invisibly felt their presence.
