Lately, professionals are increasingly turning to new methods of farming, developing original technologies with the use of modern materials and devices. One of these methods, already fairly common in the countries of Western Europe, was the production of seedlings of garden strawberry (strawberries, in our opinion), Frigo (frigo — in Italian — fridge).
This method is not so much growing, how much the particular storage of planting material. It consists in the following: high-quality seedlings grown in favorable conditions, dug out of the ground in late autumn, a period of rest, when she had already formed an extensive root system with a thick rootstock and a well developed aerial part. Roots are cleaned from the soil, dried, and leaves removed, leaving only the tiny leaves at the growing points. In this form, plants are placed for storage in refrigeration units, where it is constantly observed specific humidity and the temperature is approximately -2 °C. under these conditions, the frozen roots can be stored up to nine months. When it comes time for planting, they are thawed and planted in the soil.

Quality seedlings are dug from the soil in late autumn, when she has sufficiently developed and the root system and aerial part.

The advantage of the method: in the first year — a couple of months after planting — this strawberry produces very good crop of berries twice or more times than normal, which are propagated mustache. Planting of Frigo seedlings at intervals of two weeks (from early may to mid-July), even in the middle lane to get a guaranteed crop of berries from June to September and in southern areas this period is even longer. However, should such seedlings are more expensive, but its manufacturers claim that the crop of berries in the first year pays for the cost. And next year the bushes will bear fruit at the same time and still abundant.

The disadvantages of the method include the complicated to land: roots cannot be store bought — thawed stuff! Yes and no obvious leaf rosette planting material should be planted very carefully so as not to bury the plants.
