Norway wants to give Finland the mountain
This year, the State Finland 100 years, and in honor of this event Norway tries to make an important geographical decision. The site explains the details. Bjorn Geyrr Harsson of the Norwegian Mapping Authority led a campaign in Facebook, whose purpose - to convince the government of Norway to give his mount a good neighbor and partner, Finland, in honor of the 100th anniversary of its independence. If Harssona efforts will be successful, the border between Norway and Finland will be moved 150 meters north and 200 meters to the east and will pass through the peak of 1365-meter Mount Halti, which is on the border with Finland.
Currently Halti mountain is the highest in Finland, but the mountain top country does not belong, so that the highest point of Finland is Halti on a hillside at an altitude of 1322 meters.
Bjorn Geyrr Harsson says:
«Such a gift will not change the size of square kilometers in either Norway or Finland. Norway Size reduced by only 0.015 square kilometers. But this gift will bring the highest point of Finland from a hillside on a mountain peak. Finnish people have always respected the Norwegian, and I expect that most Norwegians speak with
support my initiative. »
