Bay Commonwealth - the windiest place on Earth
Commonwealth Bay is officially recognized in the Guinness Book of Records and the eighth edition of the National Geographic Atlas of the most windy place on Earth. Moreover - it is located in Antarctica, so forget about momentary gusts here constantly blowing wind at a speed of 240 kilometers per hour.
Australian Antarctic explorer Douglas Mawson organized the first fixed base near this inhospitable place in 1912. This was apparently one of those rare days when the wind died down a bit, otherwise difficult to imagine how he did it.
