There are microbes that  eating poisons

Chemical technology is not standing still. At the same time increases the release of persistent toxic substances into the biosphere. It is worth to highlight trudnorazrushimye normally aminoaromatic compounds used in the production of pharmaceuticals and paints. When reacting with oxygen to form many of them poorly degradable polymers or toxic compounds.

Experts biological and chemical faculty of Moscow State University. MV Lomonosov Moscow State University and the University of Wageningen in the Netherlands, isolated from the anaerobic (oxygen-free) sludge treatment plants and reservoirs of natural sediment microbial communities, and then pure cultures of microorganisms capable of destroying aminoaromatic compound under anaerobic conditions.

Studies were selected for anaerobic sludge treatment facilities Kuryanovskoy WWTP, sewage treatment plants of the brewery Efes Pilsener, lake sediments Tsaidam (Buryatia). To create anoxic conditions of the air in the bottle for cultivation of bacteria was replaced with nitrogen. Cultured in complete darkness at a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and the acidity (pH) 6, 5-7, 5. Using the medium for the selection of surviving microorganisms (mixture of 2-amino-benzoic and 4-aminobenzoic acid, 5-aminosalicylic acid and benzoic acid, 2-hydroxybenzyl alcohol, benzyl alcohol and salicylic acid, the researchers chose entire microbial community, which could use these substances as a source of carbohydrate. Microbes have proved capable of cleaving data aromatic compounds to methane and carbon dioxide.

This community presented various microorganisms having rodlike and threadlike form, and spherical - cocci. Obviously, all these kinds of bacteria role in the destruction of the substrate, so they cooperate.

This study helps to better understand the mechanisms of self-purification of natural reservoirs, predict the fate of pollutants in nature and treatment facilities, and also serves as the basis for the creation of special biotechnology to combat such pollution.
