Astronomers for the first time managed to see how the black hole 'eats' planet

About 47 million light-years away in space galaxy NGC 4845 is located in the center of which there is a supermassive black hole. Recently, astronomers were lucky to see how this black hole is an object absorbs planetary scale - a huge planet the size several times larger than our Jupiter, or small star, possibly a brown dwarf.

A group of Polish scientists from the University of Bialystok, led by Marek Nikolayuk able to see the rare event via a satellite orbiting gamma-ray observatory. The core of NGC 4845 X-rays shone very brightly, prompting astronomers to draw her attention to the study of neighboring galaxies. The X-ray has become a prominent two-stage flash, the cause of which could be the first large-scale destruction of the space object, and then the flow of material in the accretion disk of the same object. Astronomers believe that the body is absorbed by the black hole was the size of a maximum of 14-30 Jupiter masses. Just such a mass usually have a dim brown dwarfs. But at this distance to understand the nature of the object and its exact weight is not possible, so that it could be a relatively small planet.
