Ukrainian astronomers called the opening in 2008, the asteroid belt, "Wikipedia"





In the summer of 2008 employees Andrushivka Astronomical Observatory (Zhytomyr region, Ukraine) have discovered a new asteroid number 274301, and January 30, 2013, the year gave it a name - "Wikipedia».



Heavenly body with such an unusual name is approximately 344 x million km from the Earth, and every three and a half years revolves around the sun. The structure and composition of the asteroid is not yet understood, but it is set, where did the original name. He suggested one of the board members of the Ukrainian branch of the free encyclopedia, the reason for this was the birthday of "UkrViki" notes at the end of January this year. "Wikipedia" - very popular in Ukraine resource daily on its pages come more than 60 million people, in addition, it is a collective work of thousands of authors worldwide. These arguments proved powerful for Zhitomir astronomers, and they unanimously approved the proposed name.

It is worth noting that "Wikipedia" - not only the opening of Ukrainian space explorers in the past decade. So, before scientists discovered asteroid number 117240, number 133 293 and number 21272, received no less poetic name - "Exactly", "Andrushevka" and "Klitschko", respectively.
