"The village of vampires" - that is sometimes called Brazilian Araras village, which is located in a picturesque location between the hills. For residents of Araras sun - this is the worst enemy. They are forced to hide from the sun and go out only at night, as the mythological vampires.

1. Villagers Araras suffer extremely rare skin disease. This disease is called "xeroderma pigmentosum."





2. Their skin like parchment - very thin and extremely sensitive to sunlight, it has no defense mechanisms. Ultraviolet radiation very strongly deforms the skin, and sometimes it just "melts" from the sun.



3. Araras - this is probably the only place on the planet where he lives so many people suffering from this disease. Why almost the entire village is sick? The answer to the question can be found in the past. The thing is that the village was founded by a number of related families, with the result that there was a hereditary disease - parchment skin.



4. 38-year-old Djalma Antonio Jardine waits advice of a doctor in the hospital. He did have 50 operations to remove tumors on the skin, causing it to lose his nose. He recalls that the first symptoms of a tumor began to appear, when he was only 9 years old.



5. Most of the villagers are Araras wide-brimmed hats to somehow stop the progression of the disease. However, in most cases this is not sufficient. Many residents leave the house only at night. That's why Araras sometimes called "village of vampires."



6. Children in the village of Araras protect from the sun to the birth, because it is not known when can appear the first symptoms of the disease.



7. Deformed and skin tumors - is not the only problems the villagers Araras. In addition to the parchment skin, they appear comorbidities that cause hearing problems, muscle tone and coordination. It often occurs as delayed development. But the biggest problem - is, of course, the sun.
