Puppet Festival Mikuni in Japan

This is perhaps one of the few festivals in Japan, which does not have a clear background and reasons for creating. Puppet Festival Mikuni held for more than two and a half centuries, but its origins are unknown.

Traditionally, the total duration of the festival is three days. This year, a time period for the event was the "plug" on May 19-21. The dolls are made of paper and cardboard. They make up about six feet tall and depict the famous characters of the past and present. The annual culmination of the festival is the parade with puppets on the streets of the town of Sakai. As elsewhere, for the parade, puppet is preset on a special platform.
