Mikuni Festival

It’s probably one of the few festivals in Japan that doesn’t have a clear background and reason for its creation. The Mikuni Puppet Festival has been held for more than two and a half centuries, but its origins are unknown.

Traditionally, the total duration of the festival is three days. This year, the time interval for the event was the fork on May 19-21. Dolls are made of paper and cardboard. They are about six meters high and depict famous characters of the past and present. The annual culmination of the festival is a festive procession with dolls through the streets of the town of Sakai. As everywhere, for the parade, dolls are pre-installed on special platforms.
