Died Swiss artist Hans Rudolf Giger
Hans Rudolf Giger was born in 1940 in the family of a chemist in the town of Chur in eastern Switzerland. Giger became famous in 1979 after the release of the movie "Alien", the image of the monster which brought an Oscar for special effects artist in 1980.
He studied industrial design at Zurich, was interested in the union of the human body and mechanical components and created several works in the genre, which he described by the word "biomechanical".
In 1998 he opened his own museum in Gruyère, in the central part of Switzerland, which displays many of his paintings, sculptures and sketches for films, as well as a private collection of Giger's art, including works by Salvador Dali.
