Iditarod 2010 - ice race

Three-time champion Lance Mackey and four-time champion Jeff King turned the sled dog race "Iditarod 2010" in competition with each other. Mackey reached Shaktulika - the second stop on the west coast of Alaska - at 16:08 local time. King, trying to repeat the record of Rick Swenson (five wins), arrived 37 minutes later. Temperature Sunday morning was -34 degrees. Under the hood tight white jacket Lance Mackey could see only his eyes. His face was covered with large collar, forehead hung a flashlight. Like the driver, the dogs were protected from the cold - they were blue jackets and special shoes to protect paws.
