Sikorsky X2 (5 ph)

Sikorsky X2 unofficially broke the speed record for rotorcraft. During the test flight, X2, controlled by a senior pilot Bredenbekom Kevin (Kevin Bredenbeck), was able to accelerate to 225 knots (416 km / h).

According to available data, the previous speed record for rotary wing aircraft weighing 3500 kg - 216 knots (400 km / h) was installed by helicopter Westland Lynx in the mid 80-ies of the last century.

According to experts Sikorsky Aircraft, established record instilled hope in the possibility of reaching new heights. By the end, the engineers intend to disperse the X2 to 250 knots (462 km / h).

Recall that the project X2 was launched in 2005.

From the most advanced models of helicopters X2 differs implementation wire system, two rotors (four blades each), rotating in the opposite side of each other. Screw design greatly simplifies the control of the aircraft, allowing six-bladed tail rotor X2 overclock to very high speeds.
All three screws at the Sikorsky X2 driven by one turboshaft engine - LHTEC T800.
