The first (temporary wooden) Mausoleum was opened January 27, 1924 near the Senate Tower of the Kremlin on Red Square. The first mausoleum is a truncated step pyramid, to which both sides adjoined L-shaped extension with ladders. Visitors descended the stairs to the right, bypassing the sarcophagus on three sides and out the left stairs. Two months later, a temporary mausoleum was closed and the construction of new wooden Mausoleum, which lasted from March to August 1924.
New Mausoleum was a large (9 height, length 18 meters) truncated step pyramid, stairs have now been included in the overall volume of the building. For durability of wooden parts were covered with oil paint, resulting in a strict structure had a light brown color. Traction, doors and columns of the upper portico were made of black oak. Wood paneling strengthened forged nails with big curly heads.

Five years later, construction began on the final stone Mausoleum (July 1929 - October 1930). Stone Mausoleum in terms virtually identical wooden. Visitors enter through the main entrance and down the stairs to the left three meters wide (the walls are faced with labradorite) in the memorial hall. Hall is in the form of a cube (facet length 10 meters) with a stepped ceiling.
Along the perimeter of the room wide black band of labradorite, which put red porphyry pilasters. The right of the pilasters are bands of black polished labradorite. Between them is a zigzag ribbon of bright red glazes. Visitors bypass the sarcophagus from three sides at a low podium, leaving the memorial hall, up the stairs to the right and go through the door of the mausoleum in the right wall.

Structurally, the building is based on reinforced concrete frame with brick filling walls that are lined with polished stone - marble, labradorite, porphyry, granite. The length of the facade of the Mausoleum - 24, height - 12 meters. Upper portico shifted to the Kremlin wall (in a wooden mausoleum he was removed to the front).
