In the mid-1970s in the design bureau of machine building company in the Slovak town of Dubnica nad Váhom developed a new artillery system, put into service of the Czechoslovak Army under the designation 152 mm ShKH vz.77 (152 mm samohydna kanonova houfnice vz. 77 - 52MM 1 self-propelled gun-howitzer sample of 1977). However, this self-propelled gun great fame, launched into production in 1979, acquired by the name of its own - "Dana».

In the early 1980s, SAU "Dana" entered service in Czechoslovakia, Poland and East Germany. Czechoslovak military leadership offered "Dan" and the Soviet Union, but it has not caused much enthusiasm. In terms of firing capabilities "Dana" was identical (except rate of) Soviet self-propelled howitzer 2SZ "Acacia", which was already in service with the Soviet Army. However, through the use of the wheel chassis "Dana" possesses a higher mobility on the road, but off-road terrain, it loses track "Acacia". This fact may not have a significant value in a branched European road network, but the USSR was a clear disadvantage. A very serious lack of "Dana" was considered and lack of loading from the ground.

In the Soviet Army "given" a long period. In 1990 the output of formations and units of Forces from the territory of Czechoslovakia. 211ya brigade was included in the Moscow Military District and relocated to the village Moulineaux Gorky region. Materiel same brigade was sent to Kazakhstan, but data on the operation ACS "Dana" Kazakhstan does not.
