Autochrome Lumiere - color photographs of the beginning of XX century (37 photos)

Despite the fact that invented in 1890s cinema was a success, and paid shows black-and-white and color film is going to viewers around the world, Louis and Auguste Lumiere cinema felt hopeless case and do a color photo. In the new reality, they, too, have been successful. In 1903, the Lumière brothers patented a process for producing color photographs, calling it "Autochrome Lumière", and in the 1907th brought it to market. It is worth noting that, unlike the least revolutionary methods of color photographs of Adolf Miethe and Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky, Autochrome Lumiere was a commercial success and nearly 30 years remained accessible and popular among the people way color photography.

The selection presented autochrome images 1910s, the originals of which are kept in the museum George Eastman House (Rochester, NY, USA).
