Cockfights in Afghanistan

Cockfighting, known in the Afghan language as "Murgh Jangi", is a popular form of entertainment among Afghans during the winter season, which was banned during the Taliban rule. Specially bred fighting cocks compete in battles, which consist of 4-6 rounds. Each round lasts 10 to 20 minutes with an interval of 5 minutes.

In these battles, some Afghans earn fortunes by local standards, because betting on fights reach 100.000-200.000 Afghanis, equal to about 2000-4000 dollars.
