SS 433

SS 433 - one of the most exotic objects in the cosmos. Eclipsing X-ray binary system, one component of which is most likely a black hole, or, less likely, a neutron star with. 23-24. second component - presumably a star of spectral type A. SS 433 is the first open microquasar.

Designation SS 433 is derived from the names of researchers Sandyulika Nicholas (Nicholas Sanduleak) and Bruce Stevenson (Bruce Stephenson), constituting in 1977 a catalog of objects with bright emission lines. This object is entered in the catalog under the number 433.

SS 433 lies inside the supernova remnant W50, exploded about 10 000 years ago. The first component of the system, a black hole or neutron star is the remnant of the collapsed core of a supernova that created the nebula W50. Approximate distance to the SS 433 - 18 000 light-years. The sky is located in the constellation Aquila, visual stellar magnitude of + 14m, the object also emits X-ray and radio wavelengths.
