Mount Matterhorn - the dream of climbers





Keen climbers to conquer the dream of almost all the outstanding mountains of the planet. Of course, they can not pass by Alpine peaks. On the border between Switzerland and Italy is tempting Matterhorn mountain. Its height is 4478 m. The Italians tried to conquer the Matterhorn since 1857. The first successful ascent was made July 14, 1865 the Englishman Edward Whymper group.



The name of the mountain comes from the German words Matte («the meadow") and Horn («rush»).
July 17, 1865 a group led by Jean-Antoine Carrel was able to pass along the crest of Lyon.



Impregnable North Face of the Matterhorn was conquered by August 1, 1931.
