IBM and Nvidia are developing a new generation of supercomputers

In 2011, IBM showed technological breakthrough when supercomputer Watson won the Champions game show «Jeopardy». And now the company хочет to reboot its high-end servers Power, for the first time enables the graphical processor.

Beginning next year, IBM will begin using Tesla GPUs Nvidia's chips in servers with Power, thanks to which there are supercomputers, as Watson, Seqoia and others.

Agreement concluded between corporations combine new GPU Tesla K40 and preparing to release the processor IBM Power8.

As for performance, new K40 has 2880 CUDA cores and is based on graphics memory GDD5 c 3 GHz. The basic version of Tesla K40 has 12 GB of memory. A новый Power8 processor manufactured on 22nm SOI process technology, has 12 cores, clocked at up to 4 GHz, 12 x 0, 5 MB of cache and 96 MB of shared cache in the third level (eDRAM).

The alliance between IBM and Nvidia will not only increase our chances to hear about exciting new records in the world of supercomputers, but also help business partners quickly process and analyze the data (this is especially important for such critical tasks as financial transaction processing).
