North Brother Island is situated between the Bronx and Riker's Island. The island was uninhabited until 1885 when it housed a hospital Smallpox. This hospital treated people with viral illnesses, as the island can easily comply with the quarantine. In the 80 years the hospital was closed and since then the island is dominated by nature. The island is closed to and protected by the Coast ohrany.
