Cave temple

Monastery of St. Simon is in the mountain Mokattam, in the south-east of Cairo, in an area called Zabalin. Actually, it is called and the locals are descendants of farmers, now working garbage collectors.

Despite the fact that Egypt is considered a Muslim country, zabaliny are Christians. Church of St. Simon is able to accommodate up to 20 thousand people. It is called the most capacious church in the Middle East. In general, there are a few more temples inside the mountain Mokattam, but the most ambitious. The temple is relatively young and has a long history as the first permanent settlements appeared here only about forty years ago. Church of St. Simon is one of the most interesting attractions of modern Egypt.
